If the proposed project is in suitable nesting, roosting, or foraging (NRF) habitat for the California spotted owl and may affect the California spotted owl or its habitat, the Project Proponent will contact USFWS to obtain available information about California spotted owl surveys, activity centers, and habitat suitability data for the project area. An activity center represents the “best of detections” such as a nest tree, an area used by roosting pairs or territorial singles, or an area of concentrated nighttime detections. This step will provide baseline information for the project area and will help determine if and where surveys will be done, or if recent surveys have been completed.
